APRIL 20, 27: Contemporary with Edward Spots
Edward Spots was born in New Orleans. He began his formal ballet training at The Walnut Hill School For Performance Arts. In addition he studied at The Washington School for Ballet, The Alvin Ailey School, and Joffrey Ballet School. Mr. Spots was a principal with New Orleans Ballet Theatre and Urban Ballet Theatre. He also toured the world with Ailey II. He has been featured in So You Think You Can Dance, Essence Magazine, Dancing With The Stars (Bulgaria), and The New York Times. Mr. Spots recently guest starred in a feature film, “Life Of An Actress,” and just won best contemporary solo in the semi finals for the Valentina Vozlova International Ballet Competition .
Wednesday (April 20, 27): Edward likes to spend this class not only dissecting movement and expanding our vocabulary of dance but also teaching choreography and giving feedback on the choreography as if the dancer were preparing to perform. Edward makes use of all the many techniques he has learned and taught all over the world to construct his warm-up, including flat backs, isolations, baseball slides, fortifications, preludes, and contractions.
